Workshops

Throughout history, one can see that the medium of collage has come to rise during difficult times. Movements incorporating collage-like style such as cubism, surrealism and dadaism, all flourished in times of war and destruction. The dadaists used magazines and books to disrupt societal norms, morphing it into radical imagery to state their disgust with war and life in general. Instead of art, they created anti-art. Later on, within the pop-art movement, many artists used collage to try to define the thin line between mass and high culture. They incorporated advertising, television and consumerist culture images in their work. As an art form, collage is a great way to express strong messages or emotions mostly because of what it does, that is, to rip and distort a certain image of reality. In this workshop, we will talk about why it is such an important medium, especially today, when everything around us is changing so fast.
